The ESF (English Schools Foundation) in Hong Kong is a governing body for schools participating within its system utilizing an English system of education. The teaching staff is primarily British but Canadian, American and Australian teachers are also in attendance. Your child cannot be booked into an ESF school prior to arriving in Hong Kong. As the schools are regionally zoned you must have a bonafide residential address to make an application to the school of choice and then undertake an interview prior to acceptance.
The zoning scheme is quite strict and where you live will determine which ESF school your child should attend. Invariably, the school nearest to your home (if you’ve undertaken a residential lease) is the one designated. However, due to waiting lists and other factors a placement is not automatically guaranteed. The curriculum is English and school uniforms are worn. New students are required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit as an advance payment towards the first term’s fees when they have been offered a place. Standard fees are:
- Kindergarten: HK $5,100 per month for 10 months
- Primary: HK $58,100 per annum
- Secondary: HK $89,250 per annum
