1 Hong Kong Science Museum

This is a hands-on experience for kids offering four floors packed with 5,000 exhibits. Free on Wednesdays.
2 Hong Kong Space Museum

Lots of information about space frontiers and also has an Omnimax screen for film adventures.
3 Hong Kong Railway Museum
On Fu Rd, Tai Po Market, New Territories

Open daily from 9 am until 4pm; Closed Tuesdays


The station was built in 1913 with six historical coaches dating from 1911 to 1974. Entry is free. Public transport is via the KCR to Tai Po Market, then a short taxi ride or walk. Alternatively, the Tai Po Market mini bus will take you there.
4 Police Museum
27 Coombe Rd, Magazine Gap, Hong Kong Island

Open Sundays from 9 am until 5 pm; Tuesdays from 2 pm until 5 pm;
Closed Mondays and all public holidays


Entry is free. The Museum has a counterfeiting machine on display, historic uniforms and the head of a Sheung Shiu tiger shot by a police officer in 1915. There is a lovely little park just nearby with a great view of Aberdeen and large children's playground. Public transport is via bus 15 from Exchange Square in Central.
5 Hong Kong Museum of History
Haiphong Rd, Kowloon Park, Kowloon

A photographic journey of old Hong Kong and tells the story of how Hong Kong has developed into a world economy market place. Admission is free on Wednesdays.
6 10,000 Buddhas Monastery
Sha Tin, New Territories (off Tai Po Rd)
Open daily from 8 am until 6:30 pm


There are over 10,000 Buddhas in various positions depicting Buddha's journey towards enlightenment. There are also about 250 stairs to go up to the temple.

Acces via public transport is to take the KCR to Sha Tin. Leave by the ramp on the left. Follow the main road then take the first left on to Pai Tau St, walk past the village and the newer temple and the car park there. From there are small yellow signposts indicating the way. Parking is available in the New Town Shopping Centre.
