1 Hong Kong Park
Kennedy Road, Cotton Tree Drive, Hong Kong Island
Open daily from 7am until 11pm


This lovely park offers 10 hectares featuring a walk- through bird aviary housing more than 600 species of birds together with a very sophisticated dual climate greenhouse complex. Other attractions are an observation tower, an amphitheatre, a tai chi garden, a children's playground, a sports complex and Flagstaff House which houses the Museum of Tea Ware.

Access to the Park can be gained by walking from Central MTR or Star Ferry. The closest parking station is in Pacific Place.
2 Zoological and Botanical Gardens
Hong Kong Island
Open daily from 6 am until 10pm


A small park featuring a zoo and botanical gardens. Located between Robinson Rd, Upper Albert Road and Garden Road. It has an aviary of exotic birds and a mammal collection which includes monkeys and orangutans, gibbons, a reptile house and beautiful gardens.

Closest parking station is in Coda Plaza on Cotton Tree Drive - accessed off MacDonnell Rd. From here you can walk. From Central take a taxi from Central MTR or the Star Ferry. Entry to the Park is free. Not pusher/stroller friendly owing to numerous slopes within the park.
3 Victoria Park
Causeway Bay

Victoria Park is a park offering all day recreational facilities. The local Chinese practise tai chi and exercises from around 4am. The park offers public squash courts, swimming pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, a jogging track, a sitting area and a playground. It is also the popular site of the Chinese New Year and Autumn Lantern Festivals. Victoria Park can be reached by either the Causeway Bay or Tin Hau MTR stations, or by tram.
4 Victoria Peak
Hong Kong Island

The highest point on Hong Kong Island. An old favourite with locals and tourists alike, a trip up to Victoria Peak is a must. The Peak Tram is located on Garden Road in the St. John's Ambulance Building. Access to the Peak is also available by mini bus, public bus or you can drive there as well. Parking is available at the Peak Galleria Shopping Centre. As well as restaurants and specialty shopping other highlights at the Peak include Laser Tag, Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, Madame Tussards Wax Museum. There are also walks around The Peak itself which will suit all ages but children need to be closely supervised as the drop is quite significant!
5 Kadoorie Farm & Garden

No entry is permitted between 12:30 to 1pm or after 3pm. If you are in the park during these times you may remain. It has a number of farm animals such as pigs, ducks and geese and has a large orchard and vegetable garden, a butterfly garden, a children's playground, an amphibian house and an aviary.

There are a number of picnic areas and if you have a car you are permitted to drive into the grounds. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a lovely park dedicated to nature. Entry is free. However, you need to call the park and advise the office you are coming and how many will be in your party.

If you are going by public transport call the Farm to ask which is the best bus to catch to get to the Farm.
6 Lion's Park Hirims Highway
Sai Kung, New Territories

This is an educational park sponsored by the Lions Club of Hong Kong so don't expect to see any lions!However, it does have chickens, ducks, an insectarium, play-ground, picnic areas, information about country parks and a bit of history on Hong Kong. It is a nice place to visit for a short excursion.

Entry is free and parking available. Public buses go right past. Closed on Tuesdays.
7 Beas River Country Club (Hong Kong Jockey Club)

Normally open to Jockey Club Members only. However, during Show Jumping dates non-member spectators are welcome. A great chance for kids and parents to spend the day in the countryside and see lots of horse and pony jumping competitions. Food stalls are set up on a cash basis.

Plenty of parking during open house show dates. Public transport is by way of Sheung Shui KCR station and taxi from there. You can call the Stables Office of the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the show season schedule.
8 Tuen Mun Town Park (along the Tuen Mun River)
Tuen Mun, New Territories

This park has a roller skating rink, a children's playground and pavillions. It is very large and quite picturesque with a man-made lake in the centre containing lots of water fowl.
9 Kowloon City and Walled City Park
Kowloon (between Tung Tau Tsuen Rd, Tung Tsing Rd, Carpenter Rd, and Junction Rd)

These are wonderful gardens with a cycling track for small bikes, lots of different playgrounds, lovely walks and room to move. The walled city park is on the site of the old Kowloon walled city and has a historic monument to the city with pictures and descriptions and actual relics of the original gates. The gardens are lovely to stroll in and with a very Chinese influence that includes a Chinese zodiac garden carved out of marble, fountains and waterfalls and lots of Koi fish. It's much quieter now with that the old airport has closed down.

Street parking is available or in Kowloon City Plaza, just nearby in Carpenter Rd. Public transport is available via mini bus or taxi from Lok Fu MTR.

Another park close by is Kowloon Tsai Park. In fact there are many parks in this area. Check your street directory and have a walk around Kowloon City. There is good shopping along Lion Rock Rd for children's wear.
10 Monkey Mountain
Old Tai Po Rd, Kam Shan Country Park (near Sha Tin, New Territories)

Looking for an opportunity to see monkeys in the wild? They this is it! A word of warning though. Do not take food as the monkeys are familiar with food smells and could attack. There is also a HK $10,000 fine if you are caught feeding the animals. Parking is available off the street near the Shing Mun Reservoir and public transport from Sha Tin KCR to Old Tai Po Rd. There are some lovely walks in this park.
